Carl Ruthling

Carl Ruthling was the son of Carleton Ruthling and younger brother of Fritz Ruthling and was born in the 1960’s.

His family took him to live in Portugal, Seattle, Pennsylvania before they finally settled in Virginia. Virginia affords an idyllic upbringing for children as they can play in a safe environment and get access to nature and forests as well. Unlike his father and his brother, Carl did not go into the Air Force but instead went into Aerospace Engineering. He earned a degree from University of Virginia (B.S. 80’s) in Charlottesville Virginia.

Engineering

This was the first focused introduction to engineering. Wanting to further pursue engineering he then applied and was accepted into the Georgia Institute of Technology (M.S. 80’s) in Atlanta Georgia. It is often quoted that a masters after an undergraduate degree can double your technical knowledge. It is not known if this was the case for Carl. He then was offered a job in Aerospace Engineering with TRW in Redondo Beach California.

This move from the East Coast to the sunny beaches of California was especially appreciated in the months of January and February. Working on Ronald Reagan’s then Star Wars initiatives, Carl was then awarded a Fellowship to go to Stanford University where he completed his Ph.D. in the 90’s with doctoral research in Plasma Physics.

@Home Network

Being familiar with communication satellites he was recruited to join @Home Network in the late 1990’s when the internet boom was just starting to take off. Wanting to keep his ties to academia he in his spare time worked with Brent Keltner and they were awarded an National Science Foundation NSF Award Search: Award#9713749 – MOTI: Innovative Service.

China

In 2000 Carl moved to China and learned Mandarin (Chinese) and began manufacturing with his own business for the construction industry.
